Residents of Benaulim took to the streets on Monday to protest against the unmotorable condition of the road between Maria Hall and MLA Caitu Silva office, setting a seven-day deadline for the authorities, to repair the road or face a rasta roko agitation. The residents pointed out that they have been made witness to a host of accidents that have taken place on the damaged road since the last few days. They contend that the State has been only hit by the pre-monsoon showers, but the tar has almost disappeared from the sinking road.Annette Goes sought to know whether the government and the authorities will wake up only after the damaged road claims the life of a motorist. “We don t want any death on this road. So far, a number of accidents have taken place but no one has bothered to address the issue and get the road repaired,” Annette said, while sounding a note of caution that women from Benaulim will come out and block the road if the same is not repaired within a week s time.Another resident Manoj Kesarkar told the media that the road in question has been declared as the major district road, but lamented that the road has turned unmotorable, causing inconveniences to both the locals and tourists alike.
