Residents of Galgibaga have been upset with various authorities ever since a large tree has been leaning dangerously on a coconut tree since the last two weeks.
The uprooted tree is situated on government property which has the Shri Shradhanad Primary School and there are growing fears that the tree could come crashing down at any time.
According to a family in the neighbourhood, a fire brigade voiced its helplessness as it did not have the required expertise to cut and remove the huge tree without causing damage to surrounding structures in the vicinity, while there was no response from the Taluka Disaster Management Authority.
“This large tree got uprooted during a severe storm about two weeks ago and is now leaning on a coconut tree. It can easily fall on the overhead electricity wires if the coconut tree gives way with the added weight of the uprooted tree, damaging our compound wall and posing a direct threat to the nearby school,” said a member of the family.
“We had alerted our ward Panch and everyone concerned about the imminent danger, but not even the deputy collector’s office seems to be interested in coming to our rescue.”
“Everyone says they have submitted our concerns to higher-ups, but no solution has been in sight for over two weeks. A fire brigade visited the site but firefighters claimed they do not have the expertise to remove this tree without causing side collateral damage.
“They told us that they will simply cut the tree and it could come crashing down, causing damage to properties,” the resident added.
