As a tribute to its founder Victor Albuquerque, Victor Hospital will launch on January 14 on the occasion of its 20th anniversary a 10-bedded Victor Albuquerque Memorial ward and a new emergency and trauma centre at the hospital in Margao.
A free mega health camp has been organised for the general public at the Victor Hospital, Margao on January 14.
Addressing the media, Chairperson and Managing Director of Victor Hospital Sylvia Albuquerque informed that the 10-bedded Victor Albuquerque memorial ward will provide free treatment to the needy, supported by the Victory Medical and Research Foundation.
She said the new emergency and trauma centre is a state-of-the-art 10-bedded integrated centre, with all diagnostic and treatment facilities. It will be manned by emergency physicians round the clock and is equipped to handle all types of medical emergencies and has an attached minor OT/procedure room.
The memorial ward will be inaugurated at the hands of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat.
The 10-bedded Victor Albuquerque Memorial Ward will provide free treatment to the poor and needy, especially for those who are not able to afford treatment in private hospitals and in dire need of treatment, supported by Victor Medical and Research Foundation where-in hospital charges will be waived off completely for those patients admitted to this ward.
The free multi-speciality health camp is open for the general public from 10 am to 4 pm and would have various specialties.
To a question, whether Victor Hospital has any plans to set up a cancer treatment facility in the future, Sylvia replied in the positive.
“We had plans to set up a cancer treatment facility, but the plan could not take off due to reservations expressed in certain quarters over radiation. We will explore setting up the cancer treatment facility in Goa in the future”, she added.
