Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar along with officials of the GSIDC, PWD, the Electricity Department and highway authorities on Thursday carried out a joint inspection to expedite the road-widening work near the ammonia storage tank at Sada.

Speaking to media, Amonkar said the project was sanctioned for Rs 31.35 crore and was awarded to a contractor, who did not complete the project and left it pending.

“We have followed up with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and taken the initiative to revise this project and get the road hotmixing completed as of now. The works of pavers on the roadsides from Bogda crematorium to Jetty has been completed and we will now complete the pending works of having pavers on the left-hand side of this road from the bridge to the Ravindra Bhavan,” said Amonkar.

“The main portion between Sada and bridge is coming under highway authorities and the GSIDC has decided to handover the works to the NHAI and the project has now been revised to around Rs 26 crore.”

“Another portion of the stretch was handed over to the PWD who have not got the sanction and the works are pending. I have spoken to the CM to expedite the pending works of road-widening, hotmixing of the widened areas and having a footpath with pavers in this area and this is why, we had the joint inspection at this site.”

“We hope to complete the pending project within the next two months. We will also get sanctions from the PWD to hotmix internal roads from Ward 1 to Ward 5 in Sada,” said Amonkar.

GSIDC Vice Chairman Deepak Naik, Mormugao BJP Mandal President Sanjay Satardekar and Mormugao BJP observer Jayant Jadhav were also present during the inspection.
