The Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) convened a meeting to discuss the much-awaited Traffic Plan for Valpoi town and once approved, it will be sent to the collector for notification in a bid to streamline traffic in the municipality.
There have been persistent demands for a Traffic Plan since the last years, considering the rapid growth in traffic and the constant traffic jams in many parts of the municipality. A number of meetings have been convened in the past but the Traffic Pan is yet to be finalised.
The constant traffic jams have delayed office-goers and students alike, compelling many students to walk home and this has prompted unhappy parents to raise demands for a better traffic management plan.
Taking cognisance of the hardships and dangers to the public on account of a lack of a Traffic Plan, the VMC convened a meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting was chaired by VMC Chairperson Sehzin Shaikh and attended by Chief Officer Suryajirao Rane, VMC Vice-Chairperson Anil Katkar, former deputy speaker Narhari Haldankar and others.
Traffic Police Inspector Sudesh Velip and RTO Assistant Officer Rupesh Wadkar also gave their inputs at the meeting.
After deliberating on the Traffic Plan, it was decided that the VMC would approve the plan and then send it to the collector for notification. In the meanwhile, traffic discipline will be enforced in the municipality within two days.
VMC Chairperson Sehzin Shaikh said the Traffic Plan is vital for Valpoi town and appealed to all people to cooperate with the new plan.
