VP polls: V-The People of St Cruz seeks to bring change, floats panel

PANAJI

Santa Cruz villagers under the banner of V-The People of Santa Cruz have floated a panel for the upcoming panchayat polls to bring about a change in the panchayat body so that holistic development of the village could be undertaken.

Among those who form part of the panel include activist Arturo D'Souza, Adv Antonio Lourenco, Domingo Fernandes, Luisa Fonseca, Caetana Araujo, Luiza Fernandes, Chandan Naik and others.

Speaking to reporters, activist D'Souza said for the past many years, they have been fighting for the betterment of the village but did not get support from the panchayat authorities.

“The people should support the candidates of the panel if they want to bring about a change in the village, which did not happen in the past many years,” D'Souza added and informed that they will ensure that if their panel gets elected only one sarpanch will rule for the full five-year term.

Domingo Fernandes said that as members of the Village Development Committee, they prepared a plan in which over 100 projects were planned.

“But, the panchayat never supported us due to which the projects never took off. Also, our village has resources as well as talent and we want to ensure to tap these resources and talents,” Fernandes stated.

Adv Lourenco said that one of their main focus would be to revive agriculture in the village as it has been neglected for decades.

“We have a vision and we will take all people along before taking any decisions which are beneficial for the village and villagers,” he added.
