General Secretary of the MGP Lavoo Mamledar hit out at the Party’s president Deepak Dhavalikar accusing him of taking unilateral decisions without taking the party into confidence in an authoritarian manner.

Addressing a specially called press conference, Mamledar who is the former MLA of Ponda constituency, cited the example of the party president Deepak Dhavalikar handing over a letter to both the Speaker and the Governor of Goa during the government formation, which he said was done unilaterally and amounted to a fraud.

“No resolution to this effect was taken by the party’s central committee. All the books and records are with me. There is no record of any such decision,” Mamledar said. “The letters to the Speaker and the governor promising support to the Government if Manohar Parrikar is the Chief Minister are a fraud,” he added.

He, however, stopped short of saying that it was the wrong decision to support the government, saying that he was only pointing to the fact that procedure was not followed.

He also questioned the decision to admit Dr Ketan Bhatikar and former Shiv Sena State chief Shivaprasad Joshi.

“When such members are admitted, you need the approval of the central committee and we have to decide over whether admitting such a member is good or not for the party, what are the advantages and disadvantages. There has been no discussion about this decision,” Mamledar said.

He said that by admitting people from the Goa Suraksha Manch, the Shiv Sena, the RSS and other such organisations, the brothers were attempting to finish the identity of the party and what it stood for.

He said that he was forced to go public with his views in a bid to “save the party” which he said increasingly seemed like it was family raj in the party. “I don’t mind if (Deepak) Dhavalikar claims that a majority of central committee members are on his side. Even if all 15 of them are on his side, it still needs that a formal decision is taken in these matters. There has been no discussion and no decision,” Mamledar said. Mamledar said that he has other accusations to offer against the party president but will hold his breath until he has evidence to back his claims. Mamledar has been an opponent of the party aligning with the BJP for the Ponda Municipal polls saying that the last time they tried the same strategy but the BJP used them to form the council but betrayed them by working against them.

“It was a bad experience the last time, why should we do it again?” Dhavalikar asked.
