Strongly asserting that its alliance with Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) will continue, the State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) exuded confidence that the party will win 26 seats in the upcoming Assembly polls.
Addressing mediapersons at a press conference in Panaji, BJP State President, Vinay Tendulkar, said, “Presently, we have an alliance with MGP. And definitely our alliance will continue in the upcoming polls. We will decide on the seat-sharing aspect three months prior to the elections.” “During the last elections, we had contested in 28 seats and won 21 seats. This time we are confident of winning 26 seats based on the work that we have undertaken during the last four years,” added Tendulkar.
When questioned about BJP’s 2012 election manifesto, spokesperson Narendra Sawaikar said that 80 per cent of the promises have been fulfilled.
“As regards developmental works, whatever projects that could be undertaken have been completed. Now it is for the people to decide. Regarding those aspects which need to be looked into or are yet to be completed, we will definitely go back to the people and complete it in our next term,” he said.
Sawaikar, however, condemned the JNU incident but declined to further comment on it.
“Presently, the Supreme Court is monitoring the issue. It had asked for a report which has been submitted yesterday. I think there will be more submissions so I don’t think it is prudent on my part to comment as the court is monitoring the issue,” he said.
Meanwhile, the party also announced its new State Executive Committee for a period of three years from 2016 to 2018.
The new 151-member committee headed by President Vinay Tendulkar has four vice-presidents, three general secretaries, six secretaries, four spokespersons and 57 members.

RSS, BJP can never be at loggerheads: Sawaikar

With the State RSS deciding to work against the BJP, the State unit has shown willingness to bridge the gap between the two organisations if required.
“RSS and BJP have always worked as a family. However, if any misunderstandings have crept in, it will be resolved. I don’t think RSS can take such a stand. BJP and RSS will never be at loggerheads. We will bridge the gap,” said Sawaikar.
Elaborating his party’s stand on the MoI issue, Sawaikar said, “In the 2012 election manifesto, we have taken a clear stand that we will take everyone into confidence and find a solution to the issue. The formula that we have put before everyone is the best possible decision. Moreover, if anything more needs to be done we will definitely take it up.”
