Will raise issue of linear projects in ensuing Parl session: Sardinha

MARGAO
Making a fervent plea to the Goa government to scrap the controversial three linear projects by listening to the voice of the people, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha said he would raise the issue of the linear projects and the people’s agitation against the projects in the ensuing Parliament Session.

“I have already written to the Union Railway Minister to stop the track doubling project. But, if I get a chance to raise the issue in the ensuing sessions of Parliament I would do so in the House,” he told the media after handing over three-wheelers to the physically disabled persons at the South Goa Collectorate on Wednesday.

“In the Parliament, we have to give in writing about the intention to raise an issue of public importance, I will put the question and if I get the chance to raise the issue via the lottery, I will certainly highlight it in Parliament,” he said.

Sardinha warned the government that people of Goa would teach a lesson to the BJP in the Assembly polls if the party does not listen to the voice of the people.

“What is not required in Goa should be scrapped and changed. The government should evaluate whether the projects are in public interests or not”, he said, adding that government has no right to thrust projects on the people.

On the government's decision to shift the IIT project from Melaulim, the South Goa MP has only hoped that the decision is a permanent arrangement and not a temporary solution.

Sardinha on Wednesday handed over eight three-wheelers to the disabled persons from South Goa under his MPLAD scheme in the presence of Additional South Goa district Collector, Agnelo Fernandes, South Goa District Congress Chief Joe Dias, Subhash Faldesai, Ethel Lobo, Piedade Noronha and others.

“A fortnight ago, I had distributed around six three-wheelers and today more such vehicles have been handed over to the beneficiaries. If requests come for these three-wheelers, I will give them too,” he said, adding that the objective behind giving these three-wheelers is that the disable stand on their own feet.
