State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday said that the government will try and resolve the current Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY) deadlock within
the next three months through negotiations with the bidders.
Rane assured that he has cleared the file for the third-party administrator (TPA) to run the programme for three months, till August while the imbroglio is sorted out.
With the term of the previous insurance company coming to an end on May 31, the government is now running the scheme on its own, clearing the bills with government funds.
In the meanwhile, negotiations are still underway with insurance companies to decide which company will win the bid to provide health insurance to those availing of the DDSSY scheme.
Rane said, “It all depends on the Finance Department now. We are waiting for them to get back to us on the matter. The premium rate that insurance companies are charging is too high at the moment, so negotiations are going on.”
United India Insurance, that was the insurance company for the scheme, finished their contract in March this year, which was then extended to the end of May.
The setback that is being faced by the government right now is that all of the companies have bid four times higher than what the government was previously paying per card.
While the government had agreed to give the insurance company Rs 2,800 per card, the present bidders have quoted between Rs 9,000 and 10,000 per card.
