Woman leaps off Mandovi bridge, dies

Labour employed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), who were at the time working on construction of the third new Mandovi Bridge, phoned to 108 ambulance service which took the woman to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

Goa Medical College, authorities declared Prabhu dead upon arrival. She had sustained massive injuries on her head.

It was only after her uncle and cousin approached the police in the evening that Prabhu’s identity was ascertained. Panaji Police conducted a panchnama and have registered a case of unnatural death.

The body will be handed over to the family after conducting a post-mortem on Thursday, it was informed.

Police Sub Inspector (PSI) Kishor Ramanan of Panaji Police Station is investigating the matter.

Man held for sexually assaulting minor

Agassaim Police on Wednesday arrested a man from Agassaim on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl since the last one year.

AGASSAIMAccording to Agassaim Police, a woman from Corlim complained that the accused, Swapnil Kavlekar, had sexual relations with her minor daughter on many occasions since the last one year. Agassaim Police arrested the accused under Section 376 Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 8 (2) of Goa Children’s Act and Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, (POCSO). Agassaim police is investigating into the case.
