While the State was abuzz with talks of a possible Maha Vikas Aghadi type alliance in Goa and the subsequent dislodging of the present BJP government in Goa, NCP State President Jose Philip D’Souza clarified that his party did not discuss any toppling of the State government, but added that alliance of like-minded parties was on the cards.
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, D’Souza was quick to clarify that NCP’s top priority was to strengthen the party functioning in Goa and to work out an alliance in the future.
“We did go to Mumbai to attend the swearing-in ceremony and we have had a long discussion with our party supremo Sharad Pawar and leader Praful Patel. We also met Nawab Malik and we had separate meetings with each of them on how the power formation by NCP in Maharashtra could have a positive impact for NCP in Goa,” Said D’Souza.
“Though we will explore the formation of an alliance of like-minded parties in the future for the upcoming elections, neither the NCP Goa nor our central leaders spoke on dislodging the present BJP Government in Goa.”
“We are unsure how news is being spread that NCP leaders were planning on meeting different parties to topple the present BJP government. We don’t have anything to do with rumours linking NCP to dislodge the present BJP government in Goa,” clarified D’Souza.
“We did have discussions on strengthening the party in Goa by working out ways to revive the party and getting youth in the unit. We also had discussions where we could explore an
alliance of like-minded parties in the near future along the lines of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, where three political parties united to form the government in Maharashtra,” said D’Souza.
