Refuting the allegations of Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, NGO ‘Goencho Awaz’ on Thursday evening claimed that the Regional Plan 2021 shows a 10-mtr road and a large parking lot in No Development Zone (NDZ) lands partially owned by her.

Addressing a news conference in response to Saldanha’s accusations that Goencho Awaz had resorted to lies and fabrication to malign her image, Goencho Avaaz member Abhijit Prabhudessai said all the evidence had been placed before people five months ago, none of which had been refuted by Saldanha all this while.

He claimed that properties owned by Saldanha and others in survey nos 76/9, 83/7 and 85/7 of Cansaulim village are within sand dunes in NDZ and within CRZ lands.

“But the RP 21 showed a 10-mtr road and a large parking lot in NDZ in the lands owned which would destroy these sand dunes and expose the village of Cansaulim to floods and devastation. It is an insult to the tireless struggles and the image of late Matanhy Saldanha that today, there was a wide road present and parking lot was shown on sand dunes on his own land.”

“Goencho Awaz will never permit to pass the RP which shows the road and parking lot on late Matanhy Saldanha’s land,” Prabhudessai said.

He added that on April 4, Alina Saldanha had welcomed and supported the RP by issuing a statement that RP 2021 would act as a guiding force.

“She did not feel ashamed to welcome a plan which was fought by her late husband. The MLA is misleading people,” he added.

Another member, Swapnesh Sheldekar, recalled late Matanhy Saldanha having fought for well-being of Goans all his life.

“Alina claims that Matanhy had fought against this road, but the RP has the road also and a parking lot as well, while she is a part of a ruling government. She should have accused the government instead of accusing Goencho Awaz.”

“In displaying complete lack of respect for the battles fought by late Matanhy for the protection of Goans, she has also betrayed his legacy by supporting those intent on the destruction of Goa,” claimed Sheldekar.

WHAT ALINA HAD SAID A DAY EARLIER

VASCO: Accusing the NGO ‘Goencho Awaaz’ of falsely blaming her of land conversion in No Development Zone (NDZ) at Cansaulim, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Tuesday hit out at the NGO for resorting to lies and fabrication with the sole motive to malign her image.
“During a news conference on April 30, I showed with evidence that my late husband, Matanhy Saldanha, was aware of the parking area and a 10-metre wide road passing through his property,” said Saldanha, adding.
“My husband along with the Cansaulim Village Panchayat Committee had objected to the same and had placed objections before the Town and Country Planning department. There is also a letter from Matanhy to the Chief Town Planner dated December 3, 2011, stating that all roads in NDZ should be deleted from RP 2021,” she said.
“I am addressing a news conference for the second time to clear doubts in the minds of people from Cortalim Constituency and Goa at large, after the Goencho Awaaz at public meetings accused me of land conversion of an area of 200 sq. mtrs and a 10-mtr wide road in an NDZ area at Cansaulim.”
“I want to make it known to the people of Goa how Goencho Awaaz has resorted to lies and fabrication, with the sole motive of maligning me. With determination and with God on my side, I have evidence to prove who has put this parking lot and the 10-mtr wide road in late Matanhy Saldanha’s property,” she said.
“I have copies of letters written by the person since 2007, requesting the then PWD minister that this infrastructure be provided and I also have the signature of the then PWD minister on his request letter, stating that this proposal be taken up on priority.”

KARAN SEHGAL  PANAJIAt a time when the State government and even the central government is trying to make Goa an export hub, the fruits and vegetable exporters are not able to directly export to Europe from Dabolim Airport.   This is mainly because Dabolim Airport does not have RA3 certification, which is mandatory for perishable items to be exported. RA3 certification pertains to safety and security aspects of a certain airport.  Sources…
