6 arrested as cops bust betting racket in Alto Porvorim

Porvorim Police have busted Cricket betting racket and arrested 6 people on Saturday.

Porvorim Police Inspector  Anant Gaonkar  during patrolling received  information from reliable source that  some persons are illegally accepting bets on the ongoing Pakistan Super League tournament being held in Pakistan. 

The premises were found to be a apartment on the first floor of a building located in Alto Porvorim area. Further a search warrant was obtained and the premises was raided immediately late in the evening where 6 persons were found to be illegally accepting bids through WhatsApp on the ongoing cricket match between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United.

The accused persons have been identified as Virendra Ranshoor, age 28 yrs,  Aditya Singh, age 23 yrs, Chandradev Singh Thakur, age 28 yrs, Amit Kacchwala, age 25 yrs, Digvijay Dewangan, age 28 yrs and Prashant Bagh, aged 30 yrs.

During the raid various articles used for gaming consisting of 13 mobile phones, 03 laptops, 01 iPad, Wifi router, cheque books and notebooks were seized. All the seized articles are worth Rs. 5 lakh.

An FIR under section 3 & 4 of Goa Daman & Diu Public Gaming Act has been registered and all accused persons have been arrested.

The raiding team was led by PI Anant Gaonkar and he was assisted by  PSI Sitaram Malik, PSI Pratik Bhatprabhu, constables Mahadev Naik, Bhikaji Parab, Utkarsh Dessai and Yogesh Shinde.
