VASCO
It is a common sight to find banners of various shapes and sizes in the port town on the occasion of the birthdays of prominent political leaders.
It, therefore, came as a surprise when there was not a single banner was found anywhere in Vasco to mark the birthday celebrations of Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar.
According to sources, Salkar had held meetings with his karyakartas and supporters on Monday and had urged his supporters to refrain from affixing banners wishing him on his birthday.
A large number of people from all walks of life and officials of various departments wished and greeted Salkar at his residence early Tuesday morning.
Speaking to reporters, Salkar said the banners were not put as part of his efforts to make Vasco the first banner-free city in the State.
“I have even requested Mormugao Municipal Council to ensure that Vasco is banner-free because...banners...would cause pollution,” said Salkar.
