Brothers booked for operating illegal stone quarry

PONDA
The Collem police registered an offence against two brothers from Mollem on charges of illegally running a stone mine quarry in a private plot and stealing laterite stones worth around Rs 10 lakh.

According to sources, mines department officials had taken action a few days ago on a stone quarry which was not in operation at Sangod-Dharbandora. After this action from the mines department, the other stone quarry operators decided to keep the stone quarry operations shut for a few days.

Mining officials then raided a stone quarry at Sangod which was shut on Thursday evening. They did not find anything in the quarry but noticed a large amount of stones removed from a private property near the quarry.

Assistant Director of Mines Suraj Kalangutkar later filed a complaint in the Collem police station after which the police registered an offence against the two brothers. Collem police are investigating the matter.
