Careers of around 30 data entry operators now hang in balance

PANAJI

The careers of around 30 data entry operators on a contract basis in the Directorate of Accounts for almost eight years now hangs in the balance after the State government terminated the contract of the agency from December 31, which has now been extended by another one month.

"We have been taken as data entry operators however, we have done all work of an accountant in the accounts department. We have now been told not to come for work. Our future is now uncertain,” said a data entry operator.

He said they were initially paid Rs 5,000 per month and it was later increased to Rs 10,000.

The data entry operators met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and appealed to him to absorb them in at least contractual service directly through the government.

“However, the chief minister did not give us any concrete assurance. We have now been told that the contract of service providing agency has been extended by another one month. However, the question remains unanswered as to what will happen after one month,” said another data entry operator.
