The Cyber Crime cell of the Goa Police traced the impersonator of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on WhatsApp to Aurangabad in Maharashtra and arrested him.
Police have identified the man as 42-year-old Sayyad Izaz, who had allegedly created a fake WhatsApp account of Sawant and also sent messages to some politicians and others over several days.
Meanwhile, even as the team of the Cyber Crime Cell was probing the CM's fake account and tracking Izaz, yet another fake account, this time of the Director General of Police Goa, surfaced.
While the account was in the name of DGP Jaspal Singh's predecessor Indra Dev Shukla, it had the DP (Display Pic) of the incumbent DGP.
Police are investigating if Izaz has any links with the creator of the fake WhatsApp account of DGP Goa, seen in the investigative parlance as a taunt by the sheer audacity of the act of impersonating the police chief.
An official connected with the investigations said, several police officials had received messages from this fake account of Goa DGP.
An FIR has been registered against unknown culprits in connection with the fake account of DGP Goa and investigations are continuing.
