Cyber Cell books Nigerian held in Delhi for cheating Goan via FB fraud

Cyber Crime Cell of Goa Police has arrested a Nigerian national in Delhi for duping a Goan to the tune of Rs 5.16 lakhs through a Facebook fraud.

Based on a complaint registered November 6, Cyber Crime Unit of the Crime Branch began tracing one person who went by the fictitious name ‘Steve Jose’ on Facebook. The accused allegedly befriended the victim on Facebook and promised to send the victim a gift from abroad.

Thereafter, under the pretext of custom clearance fees, the accused cheated the victim and had Rs 5.16 lakhs deposited in fictitious accounts used by fraudsters.

Upon carrying out a thorough investigation, Cyber Cell arrested one Nigerian national Onuorah Donatus Jideoffor (28), presently residing at Mohan Garden in Delhi.

The investigation was carried out in coordination with Delhi Police by Goa Crime Branch team led by PI Filomena Costa and PSI Nitin Halankar.
