Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira on Tuesday demanded that the Government of India should register an FIR against “fringe elements” who were creating communal unrest in the country by making controversial statements against a particular religion.Ferreira also said that certain political leaders of the BJP were making statements and creating tensions among different sections of the people even as the government remained silent on the matter.
"The BJP needs to prove its claim of respecting all religions under the Constitution of India. The Government of India must register FIR against “fringe elements” acknowledged by the Indian Embassy in Qatar. Statements made by them have larger ramifications not only across the country but internationally as well. We are seeing the spate of reactions coming from all the countries across the world," Ferreira said.
The Aldona MLA’s comments come against the backdrop of the controversy that has erupted over recent statements made by BJP's national spokesperson Nupur Sharma who has since been suspended and the party's Delhi IT Cell in-charge Navin Jindal, who has been expelled from the party.
The Congress MLA said that following the statements, and seeing the reactions coming from overseas, the Government of India has strangely remained silent, while instead, it was the BJP which has reacted.
“It is unfortunate that there are certain political leaders giving daily doses of statements which are creating tension across the country. There is mistrust against the government which does not take action. When people make statements and no action is being taken, it shows they have protection or perhaps a direction being given by the government. This is nothing but fanning communal hatred. This needs to be stopped. These people are anti-nationals, they need to be booked and arrested," he said.
