Organising cultural programmes like food festival in rural Goa would boost the State tourism industry, stated Union Minister Shripad Naik while inaugurating the Food Festival at Morjim in the presence of local MLA Jit Arolkar, Morjim District Panchayat member Satish Shetgaonkar. The three-day food festival was organised by the Tourism department in the rural area instead of the city.
The food festival was inaugurated by lighting a lamp and also by sending balloons into the sky. The Union Minister stated that the Central, as well as State government, are keen on promoting tourism and that he would see to it that both governments will always support such food festivals in the rural and coastal areas.
The festival had stalls selling traditional Goan delicacies and such an exhibition of the local products and produce will promote the culture and also bring in revenue to the local populace, stated the minister.
The food festival had a good number of footfalls. MLA Jit Arolkar thanked Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte for supporting his concept of organising the food festival at Morjim. Apart from the display and sale of food items, the festival had cultural programmes too, including Goan folk music and dance. Pernem police Dattaram Raut and traffic police were on their toes to see that no untoward incident happens during the festival.
