Stating that teachers will have to work a little extra from now on, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the House that henceforward teachers will have to upload what they have taught students on weekly basis and attendance of teachers will be strictly monitored through a geo-based tracking system.
Sawant, on Monday, also said that the government was not differentiating between government and aided-schools and spent almost 12 per cent of the total State budget on education.
He said as per the latest survey reports of the National Achievement Survey in education, Goa has done much better compared to the similar survey reports submitted in 2017.
The CM further informed that the State government has roped in the Vidya Samiksha Kendra to keep a track of what is taught to students and the reports will be accessed by the education department.
“Teachers will have to upload what they have taught to students from Class 1 to 12 and the reports will be monitored by the education department. The attendance of the teachers will also be monitored through the geo tracking system. So what time the teachers come in and what time they leave the school will be tracked,” Sawant said.
The Chief Minister was responding to a point raised by Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas on the falling score of the State at the National Achievement Survey in education during the Question Hour.
Sawant informed that the government has signed an agreement with Vidya Samiksha Kendra to track the work output of the teachers and the performance of the students.
He said Vidya Samiksha Kendra has been functioning as per the norms of Government of India and so far the Gujarat government was using the services of the organisation.
The CM further informed that all schools will have to compulsorily conduct 200 hours of remedial classes for weak students.
“All schools will have to take such remedial classes for weak students in Mathematics, Science or language classes. Teachers will have to take one and half hour extra class everyday and send monthly reports to the department,” he said.
He said the government has laid a lot of stress on developing infrastructure for schools in the State and further informed that robotics will be introduced from this year onwards and virtual classrooms will also be started soon.
Earlier, Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas stressed on the need to implement a proper recruitment system so as to employ quality teachers in schools.
He also emphasised on conducting a ‘Goa assessment survey’ to evaluate the performance of students instead of relying only on the National Achievement Survey which takes place after every three years.
“Inter-state transfer of teachers of aided schools is a must to improve the score in the National Achievement Survey. We also need to offer a one-time grant for all aided schools to uplift the infra of the schools,” Viegas said.
