After a meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday, Goa Forward Party chief laid to rest speculation and ruled out merger of his party with the Trinamool Congress but advocated a "united fight" to defeat the ruling BJP.
The party chief along with the two other party MLAs - Jayesh Salgaonkar and Vinoda Palekar and other party leaders met Banerjee where they discussed the possibility of aligning to unitedly fight the 2022 polls.
He rooted for a ‘Team Goa’ comprising of like minded parties to defeat the BJP in an interaction with the media after he emerged from the meeting with Banerjee.
The GFP also described Banerjee as a symbol of 'regional pride' and suggested that they met the West Bengal chief minister following her statement that all should pool together to bring down the BJP.
GFP, who are still facing resentment over their decision to align with the BJP, which was their principal opponent, to form the government in 2017, is also negotiating for an alliance with the Congress
