AAP MLA Captain Venzy Viegas demanded that the State government should not forcibly bring in taxi services like Ola and Uber which are outdated, but should introduce an innovative solution for the State.
“The government should consider different solutions for different categories of taxis. There should be one digitalised arrangement for taxis which are attached to hotels. For taxis operating through stands, there should be a different approach,” said Capt. Viegas.
He said the government should sit and discuss with taxi operators and other stakeholders before taking any decisions.
“Decisions should not be arbitrarily imposed on people,” said Capt. Viegas, adding that he is ready to help the government in this process.
Captain Viegas described the GoaMiles app as a failure, alleging that it was illegally imposed in the State by giving high concessions.
“Just to attract people, the companies lower the taxi fares and then double the fares. Also, the decision of digital meters cannot be just imposed on taxi operators merely by arguing on the compliance of the high court order. We have to view the issue from the side of the taxi operators as well,” he added.
