The Bombay High Court at Goa will hear the petition filed by Mapusa Municipal Council councillor Tarak Arolkar, who has approached the court challenging the decision of the deputy collector, who revoked his caste certificate leaving him vulnerable to disqualification.The High Court recorded the “consensus” by the parties which includes the state and the original complainant that they will “endeavour to dispose of the petition finally” since the petitioner Arolkar “is aware of the consequences that would fall upon consequent to the cancellation of the caste certificate.”
The respondents sought time to file their replies.
Arolkar approached the Court being aggrieved by the order dated May 5 passed by Caste Scrutiny Committee by which the caste certificate issued in favour of Arolkar, declaring him belonging to Bhandari Naik Community (Other Backward Class) was found to be invalid.
Consequent to this order, the Deputy Collector, SDO & SDM, Bardez Goa, invoked the certificate issued by it and directed the same to be withdrawn as cancelled.
Arolkar faces disqualification if the revocation of his caste certificate is upheld.
