Karnataka bandh on Thursday

BELAGAVI

While the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) has called for a state-wide bandh on Thursday to protest against the abnormal hike in electricity rates, the Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has also supported the bandh.

Shocked by the sudden spike in the electricity bill, the trade associations across Karnataka too are joining hands to support the bandh.

The associations in their statement have stated that several attempts to convey the impact of the high electricity charges for the last eight days are in vain. The associations have appealed all the traders, educational institutions and other organisations to take part in the strike to send a message to the Siddaramaiah-led government.

“We request all the trade and industry to close their establishment on June 22. This is in protest of abnormal price hike in the electricity charges by ESCOMs”, a press release states.

Urging citizens to cooperate on the day of the bandh, the Belgaum Chamber of Commerce & Industries along with all associations have requested all trade and Industry (except emergency services) to keep their establishment closed on Thursday to support the agitation.

A rally will be held on Thursday that will commence at 10 am from Dharmveer Sambhaji Circle and reach DC office and will culminate after handing over a memorandum against the huge rise in electricity charges.
