The Mapusa Police Sub-Divison issued 300 notices for violation of Motor Vehicle Act and collected a whopping fine of Rs 16 lakh in just 35 days.
Mapusa, Anjuna and Colvale police stations come under the jurisdiction of Mapusa sub-division.
According to Mapsua SDPO Jivba Dalvi, Anjuna Police Station booked the highest number of 1116 cases and collected an amount of Rs 6,44,000 as fine.
Similarly, Mapusa Police Station booked 951 cases and grossed an amount of Rs 4,82,000 while Colvale Police Station booked 756 cases and netted an amount of Rs 4,77,500 by way of challans.
The Mapusa Sub-Division had started a photography drive against traffic violations in bid to enforce traffic discipline among motorists from February 21.
Plain-clothes policemen were tasked with the job to move around with smartphones and shoot photos of all those riders/drivers who violate traffic rules and thereafter report the violations to the respective police stations.
“In the photography initiative, Anjuna Police Station issued 80 notices to traffic violators, Mapusa Police Station issued 70 notices while Colvale Police Station issued 70 notices to traffic violators, thus generating fear in the mind of public that Police in Civil uniform are clicking there pictures and issuing notices for traffic violators, thereby eliminating the chances of traffic violation,” Dalvi said.
He said although violations have reduced there are still some people who are riding without helmets and hence, the challaning of violators will continue with full force.
