Merces sarpanch assures action

OLD GOA

Merces Sarpanch Assis Fernandes, who visited the site on Wednesday, assured that the panchayat would act in the matter.

“The panchayat will write to the Deputy Collector as well as the TCP department over the land filling activity,” Fernandes said.

On the unauthorised structures being built, Fernandes said that the panchayat would serve notice to the owner of the property and ensure its demolition.

“For the moment, though, the panchayat secretary is on training due to which the notices could not be served,” he added.

When pointed out that the labourers have informed that the garbage contractor is undertaking the land filling activity, Fernandes said that he would have to first verify the same.

“There is a Material Recovery Facility of the panchayat, where the garbage contractor has been given permission to sort waste. But if the contractor is involved, then panchayat would initiate action,” Fernandes said.
