MARGAO
Margao Municipal Officials are facing a million dollar question “ how will the civic body settle the Pune-based Bio-Methanation plant contractor when the plant will not be operated but will be kept in readiness and when the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has directed the MMC to discontinue the operations of the plant within six months?
MMC officials in the know are saying that after the payment of the fixed amount to the contractor, the civic body is liable to pay the promoter a monthly installment of Rs 1.5 lakh for handling and running the plant. With the MMC now virtually deciding to keep the bio-methanation plant in readiness and given that the GSPCB has called for discontinuance of the plant operations, civic officials are seeking legal advise how to go about the proces before the civic body lands itself in a litigation.
“We are seeking legal advise on the mater. Based on the legal advise, the MMC will take the next step”, remarked a senior MMC official.
