The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has transferred Rs 23 crore to the GSUDA for three important projects in the port town.
According to sources, the three key projects -- Vasco fish market, MMC building renovation and Baina Power House Complex -- are likely to begin some time through the GSUDA.
When contacted, MMC Councillor Yatin Kamurlekar he said the agenda to discuss the transfer of funds to GSUDA for the three key projects had been put up before the councillors.
“All councillors were informed about the proposal and the minutes were circulated. All councillors were also informed to submit their suggestion and objections to this proposal within three days to the chief officer. While no one has objected, around 10 councillors wrote to the MMC extending the support and acceptance to the move and the move was passed unanimously,”said Kamurlekar.
When contacted, MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut said the first project to begin would be the long-pending Vasco fish market.
“The funds of Rs 23 crore with the MMC under the 14th Finance Commission scheme have been transferred a week back to the GSUDA to take up these projects. The fish market works will start off by October 15 and the next project of MMC building renovation is likely to start by the last week of October or first week of November,” said Raut.
Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida said three key projects were sanctioned through the GSUDA.
“I am happy that the MMC has transferred the funds to GSUDA to take up these projects. I also want to thank Urban Development Minister Milind Naik for taking these works under his departments,” said Almeida.
