Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar has said the Rumdamol Panchayat ought to have initiated strict action against the madrassa activities in a residential house in the village, even as he along with the BJP Mandal has rallied behind panch member Vinayak Volvoikar.
Condemning the attack on Volvoikar in late night Saturday incident, the Navelim MLA said no one has the right to take the law in their hands. “Volvoikar had received some threats after he had demanded action against the madrassa in a residential house. We are not against any religion. Religious activities should be conducted inside a place of worship. What was taking place inside the residential place was illegal and wrong,” he said.
Tuenkar said he would ask the police to shut down all business activities in the Rumdamol Housing Board after 9 pm since there are complaints of anti-social activities in the area late night.
