Need to develop KTC bus stands to revive transport sector: MLA

PANAJI

Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) Chairman and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Friday emphasised the need to develop bus stands like those in Vasco, Panaji and Mapusa, to turn the corporation from a loss-making into a profit-generating sector.

"The transport sector is always a loss-making sector. KTC will make a profit only if we construct bus stand buildings at Margao, Mapusa and Vasco,” said Almeida while speaking at the 41st-anniversary function of the KTC. He also lauded the KTC workers for their selfless service during the Covid Pandemic.

Almeida said the KTC has been providing reliable service.

“The KTC has honest staff. Everyone, including the MD and other officers, are working as a team,” he added.

Almeida said he would not mind to continue being chairman of the KTC if he is elected in the next term.

KTC Deputy Chairman Deepak Naik also congratulated the KTC staff for their service during the Covid pandemic.

CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate, who was also present at the dais, also confirmed this development.

According to sources, the CCP has not passed any resolution in this matter, but Monserrate is ambitious about this project and the CCP is likely to get the funds through the Smart City mission.
