PANAJI: The Opposition parties in Goa, meanwhile, picked holes and criticised the annual budget exercise of the Union government.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for instance called it an ‘election speech’ where the Finance Minister spoke of foreign investment but did not utter a word on the devaluation of the Indian rupee against the US dollar.
All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) a prominent labour organisation in the State affiliated to the Communist Party of India (CPI) called it “worse than a jumla.”
AITUC said the budget has been presented with just an eye on the upcoming election and only multinational companies and higher middle class centric.
“No provisions for lower class, working class, farmers etc,” AITUC said.
The Congress meanwhile picked the Rs 205 lakh crore net national debt to slam the Narendra Modi government for what it called its failure over the last 10 years to work in the interest of the poor and middle class people of the country.
“There is a Rs 18 lakh crore budget deficit. Isn’t it worrying? This proves that the government has been borrowing for its expenditure and nothing has been done for revenue generation,” Congress media cell in-charge Amarnath Panjikar said.
