Panchayat ruckus: Calangute sarpanch names three persons in police complaint

Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira has filed a police complaint for damaging two vehicles and the office of the village panchayat during the ruckus created by a mob that gathered in front of the panchayat on Tuesday.
In his complaint, Sequeira said Sudesh Mayenkar, Dnyaneshwar Matkar and Prasad Shirodkar along with 800 people gathered in front of the panchayat office and damaged his vehicle and another car belonging to the secretary and the office of village panchayat.
On Tuesday, a large number of people led by some Hindutva groups had gathered in front of the panchayat office baying for the sarpanch’s blood.
The mob demanded withdrawal of the letter asking for the removal of the Shivaji statue which was illegally installed at the police station junction along the Saligao-Calangute road and apology from the sarpanch.
During the protest, the mob indulged in stone throwing which damaged the panchayat office and the two vehicles parked in the premises.
The Calangute Police have not registered any complaint so far in the incident.
