On account of the severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a port warning for Maharashtra-Goa coast and also warned of total suspension of fishing operations for the next couple of days.
According to the IMD, the cyclone is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours. It would move nearly northwards during the next 24 hours and then north-northwestwards during subsequent three days.
The IMD has declared hoisting Distant Warning No 2 (DW-II) at all ports from Dahanu to Mormugao off Maharashtra-Goa coast.
The Met has also advised total suspension of fishing operations over eastcentral and adjoining westcentral and south Arabian sea till June 12 and west central and adjoining northwest Arabian sea from June 12 to 14.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a warning forecasting high waves in the range of 2.3 to 3.2 metres along the coast off Goa between Vengurla to Vasco on Wednesday night.
