PANAJI
The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserratte has said with the construction of smart concrete roads in the city there will be provision along the footpath for underground cables and after that cables tied on poles will be disconnected.
The Capital City is facing a problem of a haphazard network of hundreds of cables which have been tied to poles and buildings.
Monserrate had earlier tried to put some restrictions on his haphazard network of cables, but cable network providers persuaded the CCP to maintain status quo on grounds that people and students were dependent on internet connectivity.
"Earlier, we tried to regulate the network, but as students needed internet connectivity we didn't take action. But now, arrangement will be made for cables under the footpaths and all overhead cables will be disconnected,” said Monserrate.
The Mayor said two main roads in Panaji would be turned into concrete roads, but before that all agencies concerned will be brought on board to avoid road-digging after construction of the road.
“There will be a duct at the centre of the road for provision of a sewage pipeline and other pipelines and cables,” said Monserrate.
