Stating that the Siolim-Marna Sarpanch Monali Pednekar has recently filed a baseless and false complaint against two members of the gram sabha at the Anjuna Police Station, a group of villagers have written to authorities concerned demanding to lodge an FIR against the sarpanch and also her disqualification.
The villagers said a “Resolution Register” was being circulated at the gram sabha held on February 28 instead of the attendance register.
“When two gram sabha members brought to the attention of the sarpanch and the secretary about the contravention, the sarpanch publicly announced to the gram sevaks to cancel the signatures from the Resolution Register,” said Joseph Noronha in a letter to the Anjuna Police Station.
The letter which was also addressed to the Director of Panchayats and other authorities bears signatures of 14 other villagers who were present for the gram sabha.
The villagers have also attached a CD as evidence on the proceedings of the gram sabha where the sarpanch and the secretary clearly instructed the gram sabha members to cancel their signatures on the register.
Noronha demanded that an FIR be registered against the sarpanch, secretary and seven other panchayat members who have filed a false and baseless complaint against two of the gram sevaks at Anjuna Police Station.
It may be recalled, Siolim-Marna Sarpanch, Monali Pednekar had filed a complaint on the Siolim-Marna letterhead at the Anjuna Police Station against two gram sabha members “ Udesh Pangam and Johnny Pereira “ for mischievous cancellation of signatures on the gram sabha proceedings book.
In the complaint, the sarpanch said some unknown persons cancelled the pages which were signed by those present for the gram sabha by drawing lines across the signatures.
“Such act of indiscipline, the mischief of destroying evidence on the gram sabha proceeding register amounts to destroying of government records and not allowing a government servant to record the day’s proceedings/minutes of the gram sabha,” Pednekar had said demanding registering of an FIR and investigation of the incident to take the necessary action as per the law.
