The internal road at the Sonsodo waste management site has turned slippery due to leachate and slurry seepage from garbage trucks. The Margao Municipal Council has roped in a private agency to wash the internal road as a precautionary measure to prevent incidents of skidding.
Last year, leachate and slurry from the municipal garbage vans had flowed onto the main Curtorim-Margao road at Sonsodo, resulting in a number of road accidents.
A senior MMC official admitted that the Sonsodo internal road had almost turned slippery due to continuous seepage of slurry and leachate from the garbage trucks. “The internal road is being washed and cleaned to prevent any accidents. The leachate that has been found on the road is not from the leachate tank built at the site, but from the garbage trucks,” the official maintained.
