Calling upon Goans to be “vocal for local” while voting in elections, Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai on Monday said there was urgent need to liberate Goa from national politics.
In a rare public admission, Sardesai also said his biggest mistake if at all was not withdrawing support to BJP after the death of late Manohar Parrikar.
“We can bring about a revolution in Goa only by liberating it from national politics. Be vocal for the local while voting. In future, don’t vote for a national party but vote for a local party,” Sardesai said.
The Goa Forward Party president was addressing a gathering after inducting former Tivim and ex-BJP MLA Kiran Kandolkar and several of his supporters in the Goa Forward Party at a function in Assonora.
Five sarpanchas from Tivim constituency and the sarpanch of Aldona along with other panchayat members and several supporters of the former Tivim MLA were also admitted in the Goa Forward.
Continuing, Sardesai said he should have withdrawn support to the BJP government soon after the death of former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar.
“Soon after the death of the former Chief Minister, I should have withdrawn support to the BJP government. People of Goa are facing the consequence of that one error,” he said.
He said there were enough indications that BJP will be reduced to a single digit in the next assembly elections.
He further said that Goa Forward was working to take people of every segment together without differentiating against caste or religion.
“While taking Goa forward, we will expose the injustice done to the Bahujan Samaj and give opportunity to Bahujan leaders,” Sardesai said.
Slamming the national parties, he said both BJP and Congress had compromised on a host of issues in the State and both parties did not want to hold the assembly session.
Former Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar said by admitting Congress MLAs in the party, BJP has done injustice to all the party workers across the State.
He said both the Tivim and Aldona constituencies will be contested by Kandolkars and both the candidates will win the 2022 assembly election.
Siolim MLA Vinod Paliencar, Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar and a host of Goa Forward leaders were present at the function.
