Like many devotees, Nivia Gomes was on her way to Chinchinim village early Tuesday morning to attend Mass at the St Anthony Chapel in Deussua when tragedy struck.

Before heading to Deussua, Nivia had dropped her husband, Seby Gomes, at the KTC bus stand on her scooter and returned home after purchasing fish. Unaware of the fate that awaited her, she later met with an accident on NH-66 at Sirlim while proceeding to the chapel.

Seby learnt about the mishap after receiving a phone call from his wife’s mobile phone informing him that she had been shifted to the South Goa District Hospital following the accident.

Speaking to The Goan, Seby said his wife was a regular devotee at the St Anthony Chapel, Deussua on every Tuesday.

“Her mother and aunt had already left for Deussua early Tuesday morning, while Nivia decided to first drop me at the KTC bus stand,” he said.

Seby said his wife has sustained multiple fracture injuries on legs and hands, besides ribs and has undergone surgery at the GMC, Bambolim.
