Will it be15TPD bio-methanation plant or 10TPD gasification plant to treat wet waste, or both?

MARGAO

Will Sonsodo will play host to a 15TPD  waste treatment bio-methanation plant to treat the wet waste generated in the commercial capital as per Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s recent statement?

Or, will  a 10TPD gasification plant will take shape at the Margao Municipal Council’s waste dumping site in the coming days? Or, whether both the 15TPD bio-methanation plant and the 10-TPD gasification will be set up at Sonsodo  to deal with the burning garbage issue?

These questions have come to the fore in view of the Chief Minister’s announcement made last week, unveiling plans by Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) to set up a 15TPD bio-methanation plant at Sonsodo.

For, just a week ago, the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) has floated a tender to set up a 10TPD  gasification plant at Sonsodo apparently as a pilot project.

Notwithstanding these recent announcements, the Margao Municipal Council has till date not taken any decision either to go for the 15TPD bio-methanation plant or the 10TPD gasification plant. Both the 15TPD bio-methanation plant, which is estimated to cost Rs 17 crore and the 10TPD gasification plant costing Rs seven crore, are to be funded by the Margao Municipal Council.

Interestingly, neither the MMC has given its nod for the bio-methantion plant nor the gasification plant. And, it’s still unclear whether the Margao City Fathers will opt for the 15TPD bio-methanation plant or the 10TPD gasification plant or set up both the plants at Sonsodo.

MARGAO That the Margao Municipal Council failed to treat even a kilogram of wet waste dumped at the Sonsodo waste  management plant at Sonsodo is evident by the fact that around 8,930 cubic metres of piled waste was found stacked inside the shed till the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) took up the work of carting out the waste for remediation.Take note, the GWMC had in the year 2020 carted out waste piled up  inside the shed and remediated the same at a…
