Work hampered at Pernem deputy collector’s office

2 officers not in office, people being turned back

PERNEM

Work at the deputy collector’s office in Pernem has been hampered in the absence of two officers.

While one officer is busy on election duty the other officer has reportedly gone on leave. As a result, people who visit the office for their work are being told to return when the two officers resume their duties.

The absence of the two officers came to light when a resident, Dnyaneshwar Varak, had written a letter to the North Goa collector regarding some issue about Mopa on April 18. The North Goa collector had, in turn, forwarded this letter to the office of Pernem deputy collector for further action.

However, this letter had been pending action at the deputy collector’s office.

When Varak visited the deputy collector’s office at Pernem to enquire about his letter, he was told that the head clerk, who is handling the matter, had gone on leave, while another officer was on election leave. He was requested to come back next week.

The absence of two officers at the deputy collector’s office has annoyed residents in Pernem taluka.

Incidentally, Pernem MLA Praveen Arlekar had recently visited the same office and had taken the staff on duty to task following allegations that they were harassing people.
