CBI mulls lie detector test for cops in drugs case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is contemplating to move for lie detector tests for all the policemen and two Israeli nationals who have been booked for police-drug peddling nexus in Goa.

Senior CBI officials said the agency is investigating threedifferent cases related to drug nexus involving a dozen policemen, including apolice inspector and a sub-inspector, and two Israelis Yaniv Benaim alias Atalaand David Driham alias Dudu.

"We will move an application before Narcotics Drugs andPsychotropic Substances (NDPS) court situated in Mapusa seeking theirpermission for lie detector test," a senior official said.

Police inspector Ashish Shirodkar and seven other policemenare being probed for their links with Atala while investigation is also on inthe role of sub-inspector Sunil Guddler and five constables for allegedlyplanting drugs on Dudu.

Earlier, associated with elite Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) ofGoa police, all the accused policemen now stand suspended.

All the cases related to drug nexus were initially probed bythe state crime branch, which were later handed over to the CBI following HighCourt directives.

Goa House committee on drugs to seek more time

The House committee constituted by Goa Legislative Assembly to inquire the alleged links of politicians with the drug trade will seek extension by two months to submit its report.
