TG: Will Dabolim Airport continue once Mopa is operational?
V P Agarwal “ There has been lot of debate overthe two airports, both airports come with huge investment and both will beoperational simultaneously.
The Goan: When will the new terminal at Dabolim beoperational? Will this enhanced capacity take care of Goa’s growing air trafficneeds?
VPA “ The new terminal will be ready in March and willtake care of all the difficulties currently faced by the passengers. We havesanctioned a project worth Rs 320 crores at Dabolim. This will include a newintegrated building which will be able to handle traffic for the next seven or eightyears. With the new building we will have more boarding bridges and a new wing leadingto increased capacity.
TG. So what is the current problem with the Dabolim airport?
VPA “ There are certain limitations at Dabolim due to the Navyoperations like the timing as they have a reserved slot. Mopa will be a civilianairport unlike Dabolim.
TG “ Have all the land issues between the Navy and Airport beencleared?
VPA “ We have resolved the problems and will also resolvethe immediate needs. The navy has promised to cooperate during our meeting in Delhi.They have their requirements and have promised to help.
TG “ Have you received any proposal from any airline toland at night?
VPA - Night flight is available at Dabolim and Mopa. International airlines operating to Goa are governedby bilateral fragments. Once the infrastructure is available there will be noconstraints and we can accept foreign airlines landing directly in Goa. Whensuch proposals are made we consider it. Currently Dabolim has a constraintbecause of the single window of operation. We can increase capacity butoperators find it very difficult in view their flight operations. MOPA willhave no limitations as these things willbe considered .
TG - Will both airports be able to survive?
VPA “ Both airports will survive depending upon thepreference of the passengers and facilities will be developed. Slot restrictionwill continue at Dabolim even after Mopa is operational.
