The Goan has in its possession three crucial communicationsbetween Airports Authority of India and Goa Government that highlights thedesperate state the AAI is in, in trying to get the denotified land of BernardCosta, on which a private builder is building and selling flats, re notifiedfor its parking, for which the land was acquired in the first place.
On December 1, 2012, AAI’s Dabolim Airport Director M Sureshwrote to State Liaison Offi cer (Dabolim) as well as Collector (South) N DAgarwal “consequent to de-notification of land in Survey no. 8/1, no place isavailable with AAI for developing parking as well as allied aviation facilitiessuch as fuel farms , warehouse etc”.
Suresh also reminded the state through Agarwal that it hadbrought this issue to light through various site visits and letters. AAIChairman V P Agrawal.in his letter to Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava on August2011 had drawn the State’s attention to its’ requirement of a total of 82913sq.mtr for developing the new integrated terminus at Dabolim.
Denotifi cation of acquisitioning of 53137 sq.mtr, which isnearest to the upcoming New Terminal Building “would result in new terminalbuilding on commissioning not having corresponding aviation support facilities”.Agrawal reminded the state that AAI had paid for the land acquisition and hencethe land be handed back.
Later that year, then Dabolim Director D Paul Manickam toohad pointed to Goa Government that though its efforts to identify an alternativearea is appreciable, the prevalence of defence area around the site made anyfurther acquisition difficult. As such Manickam asked Chief Secretary torenotify Survey No. 8/1 under urgency clause so that land can be made availablefor development as there was no other land available.
