Apex court must act to ensure fair polls

The Election Commission of India and it's 3 commissioners have given a free pass to hate mongering political parties who are brazenly posting fake content and communal videos on social media and spreading lies about what the opposition will do if voted to power. The ECI is a silent spectator which is taking absolutely no action to rein in such miscreants despite having full legal powers and authority to do so. The umpteen instances of false, toxic narratives being built on a daily basis to sow hate and fear in the voters' mind are going unchecked as well. Multiple instances of opposition and independent candidates being intimidated by BJP goons to withdraw their nominations have come to light, yet there is no protection provided to them by the ECI. It is thus an accessory, by it's acts of omission and commission. How can this be termed as a free and fair election ? The Supreme Court should please intervene by taking suo motu cognizance of such a criminally compromised government body and utter lawlessness by the ruling party as fair elections are the lifeblood of democracy.
