In another incident, a young 36-year-old lineman, Manoj Zambaulikar, was electrocuted while on the job at Pilgao-Bicholim. This marks the 71st death due to electric shock. The lineman was attending a call received as a complaint on a pole, and the power supply started while he was repairing the same. It is surprising how such cases continue to happen despite spending 12,000 crores in the last five years to improve power supply in the state.
The locals and family now question the authorities over negligence in safety and the lives of linemen in the department. A similar incident occurred a few months back when newly joined staff was asked to repair the wires on a pole. Such incidents only affect the families of the deceased, who suffer due to the loss of the sole breadwinner. The government should strongly come up with a solution to prevent such occurrences and take all precautions before allowing linemen to attend calls or restore faults on electric poles and transformers.
