The highest positivity rate of 51 per cent which Goa reported on April 29 can spell disaster if immediate steps are not taken to stop the spread of the virus.
The positivity rate determines the spread of the virus. It is frightening to note how the virus has been spreading at a breakneck speed over the past few days. The positivity rate of 5% is what WHO says is ideal for an outbreak to be under control. By these norms the outbreak is certainly out of control in Goa.
The medical infrastructure is crumbling under the weight of high daily hospitalisation. Individual attention and care cannot be given to every admitted patient due to lack of medical warriors and medical facilities, as a result of which there is a high surge in the mortality rate which is unimaginable.
A short lockdown of only 3 days will not help break the transmission chain. The borders are still ever welcoming without any checks. The Government needs to prioritize health over economy and formulate stringent SOP’s which are aimed at lowering down the positivity rate.
