Gulf countries bordering the Persian Gulf depend heavily on desalination plants for their drinking water needs accounting for 50% of the global daily desalinated water production. Such plants can also take care of microplastics so are not likely to import bottled water in exchange for fuel.
Notably, in Goa, people are struggling to get the basic requirement of water: so if the dams are needed then it must first cater to local needs. Water as of today is sufficient for Goa but the same is diverted to mega projects and swimming pools. If the minister concerned starts reviving all wells in Goa it will be a worthy move.
What we are witnessing today is a lack of calibre and knowledge in our MLAs. CSR as we know stands for Corporate Social Responsibility. The rules are strict: funds are to be routed through NGOs for the benefit of the community. The same cannot be used for CCTV cameras in govt offices!
