This is with reference to the Editorial: Mall in the making…. & Govt holds ground on unity mall ….. in The Goan Everyday - January 14, 2026. That was an apt editorial on the proposed Unity Mall project. The protests only go to show the lack of foresight on the part of the authorities in the country. It is imperative that locals are consulted and the impact of the project on the region taken into account while planning infrastructure projects. It is good to see however, locals coming out boldly against ill-conceived infrastructure projects which affect the environment and their livelihood. At the end of the day, the Editorial rightly poses the question: should economic development take precedence over environmental and local concerns? The authorities have a lot to answer. And this is true of all infrastructure projects in cities like Mumbai, etc. I would say, development for whom?
